
How climate, panel geometry and substructure strategy affect terracotta facade performance in export projects.
Terracotta panel systems are often selected for their calm material expression, but long-term performance depends on more than appearance. Ventilation gap design, fixing logic, profile depth and panel geometry must respond to the actual climate of the destination market. What performs well on a dry urban facade may not be enough for freeze-thaw zones or coastal exposure.
On projects in Germany, Bulgaria or the Balkans, architects usually ask first about color, format and support rails. A better first question is how the panel family behaves under repeated weather cycles, where the water exits the facade and how maintenance access is considered around corners, parapets and service penetrations. These details protect both the panel and the reputation of the installer.
A strong export specification should therefore describe panel type, cavity depth, support material, movement joints and the site climate together in one package. When the manufacturer receives that information early, the proposal becomes technical rather than generic, and the facade system is easier to defend during design review and procurement.
